KOKOMO PIECEMAKERS SERVICE PROJECT 08
The board members have chosen to sponsor
2 organizations this year. The Kokomo Urban Outreach (Trinity Church based) and Quilts for VA Hospital,
Marion, IN.
If you can't make a complete quilt, think
about donating fabric, a package of batting, backing fabrics, or just your time! Come
sew on June 14 with us at the South Library. Be sure to sign the book and be
entered in the drawing for a chance to win an oak quilt hanger (your choice of length, up to 8')
Kokomo
Urban Outreach
These quilts will go to the children
from Garden Estates (formerly Gateway Gardens)
and if there are extras to Pine Valley. They have a need of 50 for Garden Estates and 30 for Pine Valley. These
children are all 5th grade and younger. They were honored to hear
that we would be so caring and giving to give to these children and show them they are special and people do care. Without these 2 apartment complexes, most of these families would be homeless. The size of these quilts can be as small as 36" x 48".
VA Hospital
The VA Hospital is in need of a little
comfort for their Dementia Ward patients. They are servicemen that have been
there up to 30 years and will never leave. They have little or no family. The need is 25-30 quilts. These would
be lap quilts, big enough for them to cover up and take a nap with (approximately 48" x 72", but any size would be appreciated
greatly!). These are servicemen from the surrounding counties.
Quilts of Valor
You may also make quilts for Quilts
of Valor, same size as above. These will go to the Indiana State Guild for wounded soldiers. They are presented to the VA Hospital in Indianapolis. There are lots of servicemen and women returning wounded from Iraq and Afghanistan.
