Board meeting updates

Thought I would let you know what is going on at the Quilt Guild Bd Meeting.  If you ever have questions or ideas, let me know and I'll get them to the board members.  Thanks for being good members.  Let's try for 100 at the November meeting??

NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING ITEMS

President's Quilt Square

Red (5 squares) and cream (4 squares).  Make 2 ½ inch squares and make a 9-patch sq.  This is not required but this is a nice "Thank You" to the president for all the work she has done this year.

Christmas Dinner

Remember to pay your $11 at the November meeting for the December 9 meeting/dinner.  If you wish to participate in the fabric exchange game, bring 1-yard of good quilting fabric.  Many of the stores have or will have 1-yard fabric sales.  Try to purchase fabric you would like to receive yourself.  This is for the December meeting.

November meeting

Speaker will be Mary Buvia—an outstanding quilter who has won many national and local prizes for her appliqué/quilting.  Check her out on the internet.  Awesome.  She is from Greenwood Indiana.

Donations at the November meeting:  if you wish to bring a can of food, it will help the needy in Kokomo.

Debbie Smith presented her ideas for BOM for 2009 which sound very interesting.  She will be presenting this at the coming meetings.  Continue to work on your 2008 blocks.  You have been doing an outstanding job on these blocks.  Can't wait to see them at the Quilt Show (or before).

Carol Gaskill is continuing her good work at getting workshops set up and we are having several who continually volunteer to teach these classes.  It is so nice to have volunteers volunteer without being asked!!!

Report from Betty Shackelford:  We now have 20 vendors for the Quilt Show and that is our final count.  Debbie Smith has signed these up so good job!

Programs:

January:  Ann Abel will describe items she would like to have to sell at the Quilt Show in June.  We will have tables to demonstrate how to make the items.  Also, Kathy and Sally Wilcox, who will be opening a quilt shop in Kokomo in 2009, will be vending.  Maybe you can use some of your Christmas money to make some purchases?—provided we get some Christmas money.  I'm still hopeful.

February:  Vikki Pignatelli will be presenting a workshop in the morning and a program in the evening.  She will be doing the workshop on curves.  The workshop will cost $40 but look on the internet and see her work—wow.  Marilyn is getting some top notch speakers, so hopefully we can support the workshops by attending if possible.

March:  a Frenchman from Bernia will be here.  He will be presenting a program on the embroidery machine and will be accompanied by Marcia Crail from Rossville.

July will find Linda Gray and Dallas Reed presenting the program.

This is just a little of what will be happening in 2009.  Of course there is also the QUILT SHOW on June 5-6.  Don't forget to continue quilting.  You do such outstanding work.  Make sure you start telling your friends to attend.  We want to make money, but the real goal is to let the community see what we do.  So many people don't know that the Quilt Guild exists so we want to show them our good work.

Marilyn Craig has done an outstanding job at getting a diverse range of speakers.  Although all might not be interested in a particular thing, you will learn what is happening in other areas.  Debra McFall will be taking over and I'm sure will continue finding great speakers.

Future Dates

Winter Woolen Workshop:  February 28, March 1—Beth Notaro

Bloomington Quilt Show:  March 5-7, 2009

          I now have a different e-mail address:  edianepoisson@gmail.com

We are trying to find a person to be chairman of a committee to take care of public relations activities such as the Farmer's Market, the Winder Woolen Workshop, etc--Activities that make us more known to the public.  This is where it would be great to have a volunteer. (without us asking).  E-mail me if you might be interested.

Carol reported on upcoming workshops.  These are somewhat tentative as she cannot get the rooms months ahead but it sounds great for 2009:

BOM assembly in January.  Debbie will give you ideas of how you can finish your BOM quilt.  Also, this will be a UFO workshop.  Sharon and Cheryl will attend to help any person who has workshop questions (from when they taught workshops).  They will actually help you with any questions.  There will be a limit on how many can sign up for this because of lack of space at the library but another workshop may be scheduled if needed.

February will be Sharon Morkal with a workshop on the Disappearing 9-patch

March Barb Murphy will do a Slice and Dice workshop

April Pat Hardwick will do a tool caddy workshop

May 2 will see the return of Nancy Odom

June will be Nancy Allman with a Fabric Basket

July Carol Gaskill will do a Wickedly Easy Quilts workshop

August Cheryl and Carol will do a Photo transfer workshop

September Sharon Morkal will do a Stir Crazy book Santa workshop

Don' forget to bring your Project Quilt to the November meeting if you have not done so.  A lady will be presented the quilts who will get them to the children for which we are making them.  What a neat Christmas present for these children.

Now that I've written a book—hope you have a good day.

Will update shortly
